French Ballarat is an Adult French Class with a focus on being comfortable speaking and listening in French, through supported conversations, rather than following a formal curriculum or text book.

Confident beginners have successfully engaged in our conversation class. The class is most suited to those with some experience of school French.

About us
Alison is a qualified French teacher with over twenty years teaching experience from children through to adults.
Each class we ask, “Qu’est-ce que tu as fait pendant le weekend?” (what did you do on the weekend) and each person says a few lines in French about something they did on the weekend. Then participants might ask questions about that activity, just as we would in any conversation about the weekend.
Most weeks there is a special topic to read about in French and/or discuss, such as a news topic from France or a French speaking country. 2026 has included topics around the Cannes Film Festival and Roland Garros tennis, as well as a visit to Palace Regent cinemas to watch a film during the French Film Festival.
